This morning, Andy Barrie interviewed two professors on the usefulness of a university education. He made mention of a college education at least twice: once in the beginning, and once at the end. Neither person he spoke to, however, was a college teacher. One was a philosophy professor, defending philosophy as practical (it’s not); one was an American professor.
This is irritating. The CBC tends to consult professors whenever they need a ready-made expert. This even extends to consulting university professors about college educations! Further, it really seems that whenever the CBC mentions higher education, they mention only university. This despite the fact that 50% more students enrol in college.
I suspect that this is a nasty artifact of the educations of the CBC producers. I wonder how many of them could name the colleges in Toronto–I doubt that any of them could not name the universities.
